Katherine M. Mayer, M.A., CCDI, is a nationally recognized criminal justice expert and founder of Mayer Consulting, a holistic defense investigation firm based in Austin, Texas. With a Master’s in Forensic Psychology and roles as a Mitigation Specialist for capital defense cases—most notably in Miami-Dade’s Capital Litigation Unit—she brings both academic rigor and real-world insight to her practice. In 2017, Katherine became the first woman in Texas to earn board certification in criminal defense investigation, and under her leadership, the firm has expanded to offer expert fact investigation, jury consulting, and mitigation services across the country. Her approach balances analytical depth, compassionate storytelling, and strategic courtroom preparation to elevate every case she undertakes.
In addition to her investigative practice, Katherine is an esteemed educator and mentor, regularly speaking at legal conferences, bar events, and investigator training sessions nationwide. She continues to innovate within the field—developing investigator training programs, advising on case strategy, and advocating for equitable representation in criminal defense
