POLICE CHIEF & SENIOR LAW ENFORCEMENT LEADER

Jennifer Brown is the newly appointed Chief of Police for the East Lansing Police Department, bringing extensive law enforcement leadership and operational expertise. Previously a Lieutenant at the Michigan State University Police Department, she served over 15 years in supervisory roles, managing patrol operations, emergency planning, and security for high-profile university events. She holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology, and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University. Known for her ability to balance operational demands with community trust, she has earned recognition for her strategic decision-making under pressure.

Transitioning into public safety leadership in the private sector, Jen managed comprehensive safety and security operations across multiple sites, overseeing a $12 million operational budget and a team of over 40 employees. Since joining East Lansing’s law enforcement team in December 2023, she served as Deputy Chief and Interim Chief before being sworn in as permanent Chief of Police—where her leadership focuses on patrol efficiency, emergency preparedness, staff well-being, and community relations.
